Dubai: The Dubai Rosary Exhibition 2026 witnessed its most expensive rosary sale so far, with a remarkable German antique piece fetching Dh235,000. Weighing about 100 grams, the rosary consists of 33 beads, each measuring between 17 and 17.5mm. Its relatively large size and the value of the sale reflect the level of interest in rare and antique pieces among rosary collectors. The sale took place as part of the Dubai Rosary Exhibition, whose 2026 edition runs from 6 to 8 November. The event brings together participants from numerous countries, including the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, Germany, Poland, Lithuania, Russia, Turkey, Lebanon, Iraq, Egypt, Syria and China. The exhibition devotes significant space to rosaries made from amber, a material that has been used for centuries in jewellery and rosary making. Some amber pieces command high prices depending on factors such as rarity, age, colour, size, condition, quality and the craftsmanship involved in shaping them. The Dh235,000 sale also highlights another dimension of the world of prayer beads beyond their traditional use. Antique and rare pieces have become sought-after collectibles, attracting collectors and enthusiasts who value them according to their individual characteristics, provenance and history.
