Indian police detained Abhijeet Dipke on Saturday, according to the satirical Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) movement he heads. The CJP said Dipke was detained ahead of a major protest against the Election Commission.
In a social media post, the CJP said Dipke and two other leaders were detained before they could disembark from a flight in New Delhi, the capital, where the demonstration was due to take place.
On the same day, Central Delhi was sealed, with thousands of police and paramilitaries on patrol. Metro stations were shut, according to the party’s account.
