Lebanese authorities are investigating the abduction of Ali Kayali, also known as Mihrac Ural, a former Syrian militia commander suspected of committing crimes during the government of ousted President Bashar Assad, according to judicial and security officials cited on Friday. The investigation focuses on how Kayali was abducted in Lebanon and subsequently taken to Syria.
Syria’s intelligence department said on Thursday that it had detained Kayali as he was trying to flee from Syria across the border.
