At least eight states are suing artificial intelligence giant OpenAI, alleging that the company's popular chatbot model violated state consumer protection laws by hurting children and deceiving adults. Prosecutors described the conduct as a reckless pursuit of profit.

The lawsuits state that OpenAI's chatbot model, ChatGPT, gives dangerous medical advice, encourages paranoia and coaches people to kill themselves or to hurt or kill others.
